Configure Snap Areas, Snap Targets, and the Snap Panel
Snap Areas
Section titled “Snap Areas”While dragging a window, move the cursor to a screen edge or corner to display a footprint of where the window will be placed. Release the mouse button to snap the window into place.
Configuration
Section titled “Configuration”Available toggles:
Snap windows by dragging: Toggle the Snap Area feature on or off.Restore window size when unsnapped: If you drag a snapped window away, it will be restored to its size prior to any snapping by Rectangle Pro.Animate footprint: Animate the display of the footprint window that shows when a snap area appears.Haptic feedback: Haptic feedback will be triggered on a trackpad when a snap area appears.
Edges & Corners
Section titled “Edges & Corners”Configure the drag-to-screen-edge snap areas for corners and edges. If you have a portrait-oriented display connected, the portrait configuration will also be displayed.
Some of the options for the edges (top, bottom, left, and right) allow for different resulting sizes/positions based on the location of the cursor within the edge, or depending on which snap area was initiated before it. For example, the default bottom edge configuration is for thirds, where dragging from one of the side thirds toward the center will result in two thirds.
For the top and bottom edges you can select:
- Thirds, drag toward center for two thirds
- Left or right half
- Bottom sixths from corners; thirds
- Fourths columns
For the left and right edges, the default option is left/right half, top/bottom half near corners.
You can configure any window size/position to a snap area, including your own Custom Size & Position entries, Stash, and actions like Full Screen, Close, Minimize, Quit App, and Hide App.
Snap Targets
Section titled “Snap Targets”
Custom Sizes & Positions and Application Layouts can be used as drag-and-drop targets for snapping. They must be configured in those tabs, where there is an option for enabling them as a Snap Target.
Drag a window to the target area to see the footprint and drop it to snap the window into place.
In order to be used as a snap target:
- Width and height must be defined.
- Custom positions must have X and Y defined.
- The specified display must not be next or previous.
Snap Targets created in the Applications tab are associated with the specified application.
From here in the Snap Areas panel, Snap Targets can be configured to only show while pressing (or not pressing) configured modifier keys.
Snap Panel
Section titled “Snap Panel”The Snap Panel is a configurable panel that you can drag a window to in order to execute the configured snap area. Similar to the edge/corner snap areas, you can configure the Snap Panel with any size and position, including Custom Sizes & Positions.
The Snap Panel can be configured to show above, below, left, or right of the cursor, or at any edge or corner of the display.
